Fabulous attractions and dining

These are a few of our favorite places in our quaint village with a bit of commentary on why we personally recommend. We'll be adding more favorites as soon as we find time! For more information on what our village has to offer, we recommend you peruse the Visit Hermann site too.
Deutschheim State Historic Site
Deutschheim State Historic Site
Don't miss this! Our great grandparents (Bleile) were one of the original deed holders who settled Hermann in the 1800's. Deutschheim State Historic Site preserves two structures that reflect the 1840s and 1850s when Germans first settled the Missouri River valley that reminded them of home. The site includes the Pommer-Gentner house (1840), one of the oldest surviving buildings in Hermann. It also preserves the Carl Strehly house, (1842). Through guided tours of both historic houses, you can experience the daily life and traditions of German immigrants to Missouri in the mid-19th century.
Stone Hill Winery
Stone Hill Winery
Nancy Kuebler Coba (one of the retrohaus owners) worked at Stone Hill during high school and college as a tour guide so this winery has a special place in our hearts. We're still family with the owners Jim and Betty Held. Established in 1847, and well before there was a Napa Valley wine industry, Stone Hill grew to be the second largest winery in the United States! Stone Hill wines were world renowned, winning gold medals in eight world's fairs. Today you can tour the magnificent underground cellars and enjoy wine on the hillside. This is a special place to enjoy! Don't miss it!
Hermann Farm Museum
Hermann Farm Museum
You MUST take this tour if at all possible and you MUST visit with the fabulous Shires that are raised here. Hermann Farm is Missouri's premier destination that connects, engages, and educates people of all ages to Midwestern rural tradition through living history interpretation, tours, and seasonal celebrations.
Historic Hermann Museum
Historic Hermann Museum
This museum is so cool! We used to visit as children and loved it. The gift shop here is fabulous for authentic German take homes! Built in 1871, the German School Building at the corner of Fourth and Schiller streets served as Hermann's elementary school until 1955. For much of its history, the school was bilingual, with classes taught in both English and German. Today the building has found new life as the Historic Hermann Museum.
Hermannhof Winery
Hermannhof Winery
Hermannhof's ten magnificent stone cellars and charming brick superstructure are among the 100 early Hermann buildings placed on the National Register of Historic places by the Federal government. Construction of a brewery/winery commenced in 1848 and was completed in 1852 in the French section of Hermann.
