Retrohaus is more than a guest home. It's our childhood home and a place filled with decades of family memories. We've lovingly transformed it into a one-of-a-kind retreat that blends vintage charm with modern comfort, offering guests a nostalgic getaway and the perfect groovy home base for exploring everything our beautiful village has to offer.
Growing up here with two loving parents and three siblings, we learned early on that home is more than a place. It's where life's best memories are made. This house was the backdrop for family dinners, holiday gatherings, celebrations, and countless everyday moments that shaped who we are.
After college, we left Hermann and pursued our own careers- Nancy as a program manager and graphic designer in Seattle, Washington, and Dan as a physical therapist and organic farmer ("Farmer Dan") in Columbia, Missouri. No matter where life took us, though, we always found our way back home, gathering here with our parents and large extended family whenever we could.
When our parents passed away after calling this house home for more than 60 years, we knew we wanted to honor their legacy and preserve the spirit of this special place. That's how retrohaus was born...a funky guest house designed to continue creating warm memories for generations to come.
Originally built in 1910, the house took on much of its current personality during a major remodel completed by our dad in the 1970s. Rather than erase that chapter of the home's history, we chose to celebrate it. Our renovation was guided by the spirit of the era, preserving the home's retro character while thoughtfully incorporating modern comfort and style. Many of the furnishings are pieces we grew up with, giving retrohaus an authentic sense of nostalgia and personality. From the vibrant decor to the carefully curated art and vintage touches throughout the haus, every detail was chosen with care to honor the home's unique story and unmistakable retro flair.
Our hope is that your stay at retrohaus feels like stepping back into a simpler, more colorful era—a nostalgic escape that transports you through time.
